Yamaha FJ1200

Yamaha FJ1200 sports tourer. At least, it was in 1990!! And as a tourer it will still hold its' own. However, despite being fitted with custom made suspension links, and having slightly more ground clearance than standard, it still scapes its undercarriage when pushed! But I digress! I bought this bike in September 1991, it was 6 months old & had 1100 miles on the clock, which means this bike has only had 2 owners in 24 years!! (I don't think I've EVER seen a bike that could match that!) Since then I have added a further 79500 miles to that total. It has taken me to Europe and back at least 7 times, most recently in 2012. It has been well looked after and has a comprehensive service history. In the winter of '98 it was completely stripped, cleaned, greased, the frame & other bits were blasted & painted, then rebuilt. so overall it is now still in very good condition for its age. The original exhaust only last 19 years so it now has a Neta 4 -2 stainless system. Fitted with 40+ litre (I forget exactly how many!) Krauser K2 panniers & top box this bike could comfortably manage Europe again this year! Heated grips mean you could leave now instead of July and a chain oiler makes one less thing to worry about. All the consumables (tyres, brakes etc) have plenty of life in them and the MOT expires in June this year, although I would be happy to MOT it prior to sale to ease any concerns. Cosmetically it does have the odd blemish, although at 80,000 miles that's hardly surprising, BUT . . . . . In my loft I have got a complete, and I mean complete, set of plastics (incl the tank) in the same colour scheme, that are nearly new. I've never swapped anything over as I've always wanted to keep the good plastics safe, just in case . . . . :-) You may wonder why I'm selling such an old friend . . . So am I to an extent, but a recent addition to my stable now means that my garage is doing an impression of a sardine can and something has to go, and as I haven't ridden the FJ as much as I'd have liked over the last couple of years, then it's got to go. Proof of insurance and full asking price secures a test ride, otherwise you're relegated to pillion, no time wasters please and I'm not interested in a swap, I've got enough junk thanks!
